Yesterday I met with volunteer Carol MacDonald, Andrew Widd the gardening coordinator and representatives from the Royal Caledonian Horticultural Society in the shed at North Perth Allotments. We were finalising the details for an exciting new project being run at the allotments called the Caley Award. These Grow and Learn Awards recognise individual progress and achievement through experiential learning and personal development. This person centred approach is for people with learning disabilities, complex learning needs or mental health issues and takes place every Tuesday.
As well as this there is a series of free gardening skills workshops taking place this summer, they are open to everyone:
- Tuesday 21st July – Propagation
- Tuesday 28th July – Growing Under Cover
- Tuesday 4th August – Pruning
- Tuesday 11th August – Prevention is better than Cure (Pests and Diseases)
- Tuesday 18th August – Tool Maintenance
For families with children there are gardening and eco art activities on Tuesdays – 21st and 28th of July. Drop in anytime between 12 and 3 pm. Activities include seed sowing, making and decorating bird boxes and recycled art. All Free. Children should wear old clothes and must be accompanied by an adult.
All workshops will be held at the Tulloch Allotments, behind the Tulloch Institute in Perth.
If you would like more details you should contact Carol on 07977806023, or email firstname.lastname@example.org .
All the workshops are free of charge as they are Lottery funded.
