Coupar Angus Community Gardens

September in the Coupar Angus Community Gardens

The nights are getting colder, the winds are getting stronger and the sun’s warmth is definitely weaker…….. Autumn is here.  The gardens growth has slowed down – now is the time to keep harvesting, do some reflecting and start our winter planning!

With a fantastic summer behind us we have learnt lots, grown lots and enjoyed lots together.

September has been busy – we have had a superb bread baking session, a group outing to two organic farms, participated in the community action picnic and have a seed saving event coming up tomorrow. Our Wednesday night gardening sessions are regularly getting 15 – 20  people, our produce from the gardens has exceeded 120 kg in the last two months and we have a fantastic group of volunteers who sell both ours and our local growers produce through the High Street Shop.

We are planning some exciting Autumnal events, focusing on the abundance of the apple harvest we have hired a “scratter” and apple press for the market on 15th October (time to start scrumping), have a kids cooking Halloween themed party planned and are starting our “go grow garden group” in the evenings – a series of indoor learning sessions to get us exploring more gardening techniques in these cool winter months!

Come join us – new faces are always welcomed and we are keen to expand.  Contact Sharon  on 07833938536 if you want more information on any of the above activities.
