Pitlochry Volunteer Celebration

Volunteers who have been involved in a wide variety of projects in and around Pitlochry received a public “thank you” at a celebration event on Thursday evening.

Organised by the Hipshire Network, a total of 28 individuals and 12 groups were recognised for their efforts around Pitlochry, Blair Atholl, Killiecrankie, Ballinluig, Logierait, Struan, Kinloch Rannoch, Tummel Bridge and Trinafour.

A variety of organisations and community groups chose to pay tribute to their volunteers at the event, which follows on from a similar evening in the Aberfeldy area last November. Each nominee received a certificate of thanks, presented on the night by local musician Dave Amos.

Those honoured have been pivotal to the success of a variety of projects, such as Bloom Groups in Pitlochry and Kinloch Rannoch, Friends of Balhousie Care Home, Pitlochry and Rannoch Path Groups led by Community Greenspace, Soldiers of Killiecrankie, Christians Against Poverty, the Dawn to Dusk Festival, National Trust for Scotland, the Pitlochry High School Defib Group, Pitlochry Litter picking group, the Pavilion Users Group who lead fundraising for the Pitlochry Recreation Ground, and the Perth & Kinross Council-delivered Zero Waste Highland Perthshire project.

Lidia Dye of PKAVS Volunteering Hub, said: “This event was a real celebration of the fantastic work volunteers do in their local area and the difference they make to the community.

“People take part in volunteering for a variety of reasons and there really are opportunities out there for everyone, whatever their interests or abilities. Volunteering is incredibly rewarding in itself, but we still feel it’s important to say thank you for the dedication and hard work given by local people. We look forward to holding more events like this in other areas in the months to come.”
