Portmoak Community Woodland received helping hands from Portmoak Primary School weeding young fruit trees in the orchard. The class were completing the conservation section of the John Muir Award and the Community Woodland were delighted with the helping hands to improve growth of apple and pear trees this summer.
Once the trees were weeded and everyone had refuelled with a snack, butterfly and tree surveys were completed. Due to the sunny weather, a lot of orange tip butterflies were flying and lots of snails and millipedes were found in the grass and earth around the trees. Bugs were carefully studied using the space age bug viewer in the photo below!
